Electricity supply project in 8 departments of Benin

The project for the transmission and distribution of electricity in eight (08) departments of Benin aims in general to contribute to the achievement of Goal No. 7 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to the provision of energy at affordable prices; and to contribute to the achievement of Goals No. 1 and No. 8 relating respectively to poverty eradication, decent work and economic growth in the Republic of Benin. In particular, the project aims at extending the electricity transmission and distribution networks to urban and semi-urban centers in eight departments to supply electric power to the project areas, in order to facilitate the realization of high quality economic and social activities. The overall objective of the project is to develop sustainable access to high quality electricity for domestic, commercial and industrial uses in compliance with environmental and social safety standards with a national rate of 75% by 2025, of which 50% in rural areas and 90% in urban areas. The project covers the cities of Abomey-Calavi, Ouidah, Kpomassè, Karimama, Tanguiéta; Cobli, Matéri, Toucountouna, Boukoumbé, Pérèrè, Sinandé, Péhunco, kouandé, Kérou, Vanikoara, Bembéréké, Ouessè, Bantè, Lalo, Ifangni, Kétou, Adja-Ouèrè, Bonou, Dangbo et Adjohoun.
