As the aviation sector suffered through the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic, the Benin government took the opportunity to modernize Cotonou’s airport and bring it up to international standards. The rehabilitation work done includes the renovation of the runway, the renovation and extension of the parking lot, and the refurbishment and extension of the terminal. The airport renovation also includes the extension of the “Arrivals” hall as well as the automation of many tasks and formalities and the strengthening of the information system to improve passenger processing. In addition, the airport has been awarded an Aerodrome Certification, which allows it to meet international standards and to be ranked among the certified airports in the sub-region. Phase 2 of the work has begun and eventually Cotonou Airport will undergo a real metamorphosis.
