The Projet d’Appui aux Infrastructures Agricoles dans la Vallée de l’Ouémé (PAIA-VO) is the result of a participatory initiative that involved all stakeholders, in particular producer organizations, the communes, and decentralized technical services. These consultations made it possible to draw up an exhaustive inventory and to identify pressing agricultural development needs and the most appropriate implementation methods. Taking into account the strategic objectives of the country and the Bank, project formulation focused on the following themes (i) food and nutritional security, (ii) value chain development, (iii) youth employment, and (iv) climate change. The project has three main components, namely: (1) development of structural agricultural infrastructure; (2) value chain development; and (3) project management. One of the objectives of the project is to contribute to a sustainable increase in agricultural productivity and production through the promotion of promising sectors in the Ouémé Valley. The beneficiaries of the project are the populations of the Ouémé Valley who are largely engaged in agriculture (rice, corn, cassava, cowpeas, market gardening, etc.), fishing, and trade.
