This initiative is an investment project funded by the Nigeria Trust Fund (NTF). It was designed to complement the construction or expansion of water systems funded by other donors. This project aims to reduce the level of water wastage (leakage and non-billed) from 26% in 2014 to 20% in 2020 in order to strengthen the viability and sustainability of the services provided by the National Water Company of Benin (SONEB) and to ensure pricing that facilitate access to water services for low-income households. In addition, it will reclaim water that was once lost and make it available to consumers. By strengthening the continuity and availability of water, the project contributes to a greater resilience to climate change and reinforces SONEB’s social mandate to citizens. The project will be implemented over a period of 4 years with the aim of optimizing drinking water services in Cotonou, Porto-Novo and environs to facilitate inclusive and green growth.
