A significant number of Benin’s youth are unemployed, with little to no qualifications. This is why AFD supports the improvement of technical and vocational training through the Technical Education, Training and Professional Integration Development Project (DEFI-PRO). Its aim is to help young people enter the job market. More and more young Beninese are completing primary school. However, their access to secondary education remains limited. The availability of technical education and vocational training remains underdeveloped. As a result, the working population is poorly qualified, and young people are heavily affected by unemployment. Despite the government’s efforts, technical and vocational education is struggling to attract students. The DEFI-PRO project aims to strengthen technical and vocational education and training and to adapt their offerings to the needs of recruiters. This will thus contribute to Benin’s economic and social development and to the reduction of social and territorial inequalities.
